this is not a joke people I've me a La-a and she gets pissed when people don't pronounce it la dash uh...never met them but I'm sure her parents are nuts.
Just bc you heard this name a year ago doesn't mean this text is fake. There is more than one ignorant black person out there that heard the name and liked it and used it for her child.

The fact that all of you got this as an email a couple years ago should make it more believable. It's that easier that it gets into the heads of stupid people. My mom is a neonatal nurse and one day I visited her unit and there was a baby named Le-ah ledasha. There are people that stupid out there.

It may have started as a joke, but I'm a teacher and I had a student last year who had almost the same name. She came to the school in the middle of the year and I saw her name on her paper work as Le-ah. So when I met her I called her Leah, but she corrected me. It's pronounced. Le/dash/uh. Sad but very true.
A girl in my sixth grade class yelled at a substituute cuz her name was spelled Afrika and the sub said Africa instead of afreeka. The girl said, "my name is afreeka, can't you read?"
Quite sadly, it's not an urban legend. I work at a criminal defense firm and... let me just tell you. We keep a list of hilarity. My personal favorite is 'Qu'antne Quant'ne' f/m, pronounced 'Kwatnee Kwantaine'. That's right, spelled the same, pronounced totally differently.

This is totally real. I call people for my college who show they're interested in learning more about the university. Her name was spelled La-a too and I pronounced it "Laa" and pretty much got chewed out. Apparently it's "La Dash a"
My sister is a teacher and she has a girl named "La-Ea" (luh dash e a) and she also teaches triplets that are named "Mercedes, Porscha, and Lincoln (2 girls and a boy). Some of the names these days are crazy.
