    • Wow... Ok, guys, if your blood is anywhere near 0.5% ETHANOL (the stuff you drink), you'd be dead. And it would take a whole lot less methanol than that to do you in. Methanol itself is relatively nontoxic, but whereas the liver metabolizes ethanol to harmless acetaldehyde, methanol is metabolized to formaldehyde, and then into formic acid, which knocks out cytochrome c in the mitochondrial electron transport chain, effectively preventing your body from producing energy from food.
