frankie28, I live in Nevada which has one of the worst unemployment rates in America. I got laid off last Thursday and by that Saturday I had a new job. I believe that regardless of the current economic downturn ones ability to find a Job depends on ones motivation.
Hmm, the ignorance of some people. Do you realize how hard it is to find a job right now? I know people who have been applying to at least 10 jobs a day and still haven't found a job. It's not their fault for the crappy economy. Quit blaming them!
If I had someone apply that told me they'd applied for 10 jobs a day and still weren't hired, I wouldn't hire them either. If that many other places decided they weren't worth hiring, why would I?
It's because they are older and they don't want to get paid the amount that they deserve. But most companies are hiring young students right out of college because they don't demand a high pay. So my mom has been searching for a job for 6 months and is only getting temp. jobs.
Because she can't get a job where she stands for too long because she is getting old and has major back problems. Also, the only jobs that are available for her are temp. jobs at the moment and she cannot find a full time job. She's been trying to find one since February.
Actually it's not that hard to get a job, you can get a minimum wage job anywhere with little to no qualificiations. My 17 year old sister has a job. But unemployment checks are usually bigger than a check from a minimum wage job so people would rather sit on their ass and get paid more than actually working for only $7/hr.
go ahead and tell that to all the people who cant get a minimum wage job. 1 in 10 americans are actively looking for a job right now. not to say that i agree with the fact that there are people who are living off of unemployment for no apparent reason, but for some that is the only option right now.
I've been trying to hire people during this entire recession, and our first year employees are making $35K PLUS benefits, but no one wants to actually do manual labor. And we are in a very low income area, median income for our county is $32K... I don't get it. I graduated college making $17K. \nNo, I really believe people don't want to work.
I'm not sitting on my ass. I'm going to school and have a job. I'm support my mom and my sister as much as I can until she can find a job. This economy sucks and you cannot deny that. And you also get unemployment.

Actually it is their fault. People just don't want to take jobs they consider "below" them. I remember before I got a career having to work two jobs to pay the bills. If I was laid off tomorrow I would go right back to that. But still be looking for something else in the meantime. Mcdonalds is always hiring.

When you are old and have back problems there's a lot wrong with working at McDonalds. Also, insulting people just makes you look like a douche. Doesn't exactly help you out at all.

at no point did he say he was getting unemployment...and to the one who said it's not hard to get a job right now,are you kidding? You must live in one of the states that has them to offer,move to Ohio, and see how easy it is. I have to move to another state so I dnt feel like a jobless pos.
We don't even have that option to move right now because if we sell the house, it will ruin my moms credit. Luckily, I have had a job and pay for my expenses and some other stuff she needs help with. I also saved a lot of money from this job earlier, so I can help out as much as I can until it runs out.
In the Merced area our unemployment has skyrocketed and is one of the highest in Cali. I'm not justifying them, just tellin it as I see it. They should at least try like me and I'm not even out of high school yet.

Whoa people! I don't know about other states but in Oregon unemployment is your tax money they with hold from you. My boy friend works nine months out of the year making $42 an hour, the rest of the time he is on unemployment. It's his money that was taken out. But maybe that's just Oregon?
It's not that hard to get a job. I walked into a position making $20 an hour at 19 years old without ever having a real job before. People need to stop wasting their money on college and learn a damn trade.
@blueyedgrl: sitting on ur ass applying for jobs online doesnt actually count has job hunting. tell ur friends who apply to "10" jobs a day if they put a little effort into they might just find a job.
One, it can take hours to apply for a job. And if you're looking for a "big girl" job, it's suggested you apply online. So yes, you are going to be on your butt applying for jobs online. And they put plenty effort into it, don't tell me they haven't!
I believe that everyone does have the ability to get a job. McDonalds is always hiring. Granted you won't make a whole lot of money but I would rather see my tax dollars going to put a roof over someone that is trying to do right rather than OPs wild sex party... Just saying.
