Actually OP's right regardless of The Hangover, black pepper is a natural deterrent of ants...just saying...a friend used it when she had twins instead of spraying bug spray so they weren't around chemicals.

If you want to kill the ants, you put down rice. After they eat it, it expands in the stomach
It's salt they hate- it expands and they explode- seen it with my own eyes
