11:59, I'm the same way. I type everything out, use proper grammar and my mother sends my texts like "hi hunni bunni i luv u" and I tell her it makes me want to die.
She's a teacher. An ENGLISH teacher.
I actually slapped my friend when I saw him the next morning after he sent me a text like that.
He didn't think I'd actually do it.
Fucker thought wrong.
11:59 - same here. I use apostrophes and all... with T9 it's not like it's HARD to do. My mother's a big fan of shortening words via text, though. Makes me wish I never taught her how to do it...
12:47 - don't blackberry phones have a full keyboard on them? D:
Also, I am now replying to all shortened texts with this message, damn people, it is not hard to type "to" or "too" instead of 2. Douchewaffles.
Um...yeah I'm one of the dorks who spell out everything including using proper punctuation....my 65 yr old mother on the other hand.....snds txt tht lk lke ths.
gah! my phone doesn't even have a full keypad and i still type words out and punctuate correctly.
it would piss me off to new extremes, though, to have someone who is fully qualified to use words properly refusing to do so.
Eh- if you're still using a phone that only allows 160 characters to each text, I can see why you would shorten a few words- that's acceptable. However, if you're sending a text as short as the one posted, and you abbreviate it all, that is incredibly annoying!
You all are so ignorant. The reason most of us abbreviate texts is because with many phones they only give you 150 character to type what you have to say, its better than sending 2 separate texts.
I generally use proper english while typing a text. With a full keyboard and the blackberry spelling thing that adds the apostraphies and periods it is really easy to do so. I hate it when people shorten the words so much. And to the people who say you can only send 160. There is this thing called multiple sms messages, or maybe just send an mms one(don't tell me you have an iPhone).
I swear it worse when they text like this: heyyy girll oomggg lastt nightt wwass soooo funn. I hate that too. The word 2morrow kills me because on most phones it requires people to press the same amount of keys.

Couldnt agree more!
I'm one of those people that text normal and when people send me texts like that i dont respond. When i speak to them later and they're all like, "why didnt you answer my text" i respond with "in school they taugh us to read WORDS so, ti can only read WORDS not LETTERS. Thats why i didnt answer." LOL. Their faces usually drop and they shut up. ^.^
Rock on, Nebraska!!
This is freaking irritating. Mostly, if I get a text like that, I stare at it for a few seconds and don't even bother to respond. I've repeated myself so many times!! I'm one of those people that will spell out 'you', 'tomorrow,' etc...LoL - I hate that NO ONE ELSE gives me the same courtesy!!
Thank you, UNL
I wouldn't be surprised if I know the person who was texting the shortened version. I love living in Eastern Nebraska sometimes. Kudos on being the first actually good post from 402!
haha i HATE when people do that!
especially when they only put like 2 letters for a long word and i have absolutely no idea what they said. it's also wicked annoying when people do the whole 'omggggggggggggggggg noooooooooooooo wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy' type thing. haha
I agree with you 11:59, and 12:02, that's shit luck about your mom's texting ability. I'm a known spelling Nazi and people know I won't respond if you can't learn how to type properly. It does not take that long to add the 'y' and the 'o' to you. Awesome response though, I might have to use that one someday!
I use correct punctuation and full worlds as well when I text. I hate getting answers with shortened words.
Get a full keyboard with your phone and take advantage of it. I hate it when people spell love like luv and say ttyl..... or gtg.... MIDDLE SCHOOLERS TALK LIKE THAT, not adults.
ha, i hav a Blackberry which means no T9, so i rarely txt full words unless the phone corrects it into the full word, which happens alot.... ok tht and im normally txting whn i shuldnt and im trying to get caught... like in school, work, etc... so i try to type w/e im saying asap
12:10 - Linguistics isn't necessarily concerned with punctuation or even "proper" spelling. BUT, as a linguist... WTF? What kind of linguists ARE they? :D
@2:38 youre ignorant. this text is a whole lot shorter than 150 characters so clearly the sender wasnt doing it to shorten the text. it makes you seem like an idiot.
i dont abbreviate, but i will end the sentence with a period, or if required a question mark. But yeah, takes way too much time and effort to figure out what they're saying, and its usually a pointless text.
