  • Not true. I've worked in a state correctional facility, and while it is extraordinarily rare, there are those who have what seems to be a natural born immunity, and suffer little to no effects at all.

  • That's amazing.

  • I'm in the military and in my job category we get pepper sprayed. And I have NEVER met anyone immune to it. I've heard of it tho. So yes, it is rare.

  • M_vandy, how can you say it's rare? The vast majority have never been maced. That's like saying "it's rare that people don't vomit while in space". Relative terms can only be stretched so far

    • you're an idiot, the only way that works is if people who are less likely to be criminals or less likely to be maced are more likely to be immune than the people who are getting maced, you're an idiot

      • I don't agree with how you said it, because name calling is rarely relevant, but my hubbs is I'm the army and he's been maced. All cops and mp's I know have gone through mace training...so more people than you might think...

  • How is this possible? I was under the impression capsaicin is one of those substances you can't become accustomed to... Hm, time to Google it up I think...

    • Its not so much an immunity as it is a lack of feeling pain, or an ability to ignore the pain. Tear and mucus glands are all still affected as well as slight difficulty breathing in some people and involuntary closing of the eyes in most.

    • Well....tasers rarely fail...kudos on faking out the cops. I imagine a witchy "I'm melting" and then giggling uncontrollably.

  • In the army, (U.S. is the one I am speaking of,) in order to be able to weld O.C.-- ie mace, you have to be sprayed by it first. Hurts, but I can see how some folks could power through, just to prove a point. Eyes would still water and nose probably still run.

    • its like that with any branch. same goes for tasers. you gotta try it before you can use it

  • I'm immune til I get sprayed in the eyes. It doesn't affect my breathing or give me a snotty nose.
