  • They could be texting a contact that doesn't recognize the number? I get texted from people who are no longer worthy of being in my address book all the time. I have no idea who the hell they are, but they seem to know me, and unless they have an extremely interesting text, I don't reply.

  • Maybe the number is in their contacts but the person who had it changed their number so it went to the wrong person. Happened to me more then once.
