Right. Because the difference in ice is SO significant from one ice rink to another that it would make a serious difference in your ability to compete. No other country would have done any differently. This just happened to be one of the only rinks that was finished far enough ahead of time for it to be an issue.
Maybe it's an IIHF rule? Or perhaps the best teams were all made up of NHL players who were still playing for their club teams until 2 days before the Olympics started.

Actually what Canada is most well known for is being a beautiful, clean country with polite, respectful citizens. The current temperature in Toronto is 2celsius - so that's 35farenheit. The Canadian climate is the same as most the the US, save for states that are warm year-round. The team was named after the Maple Lead regiment from WW1. As it is a proper noun, it is pluralized by adding an "s"... Or perhaps the fact that there is only one leaf on our flag.
