      • You see, THIS is precisely why I'm proud to be Canadian. It must be nice to live in a country that teaches you to be as retarded as this. 'tstan30' maybe try getting your grade 9 before you enter into a war of words with ANY Canadian. Last time I checked one does not 'grovel' in free health care, Canada HAS an Army, and in NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM does the United States rule ANYTHING. Take a cue from the rest of the WORLD: we LOATHE your pathetic, obese, bigoted asses! Stupid rat fuck! Ha

Submitted by bsitz on Mar 1, 10 at 3:11pm
        • Fool. The harmonized sales tax, which has not been passed in every province, is a combination of two other taxes. Therefore, you would not see three separate taxes on a dinner bill. Also, food is not taxed in Canada so the only way your dinner bill would have been up of 50% taxes would have been if you had nothing but booze for dinner.

Submitted by WUT on Mar 1, 10 at 4:57pm
            • I've eaten at plenty of restaurants in both countries. The prices are pretty much the same. Canadians pay maybe an extra 5-10% sales tax, depending which province/state you compare. And you're probably the first person in history to spend $90/head at TGI Friday's - a family of four can eat there comfortably for that price.

Submitted by Herschel on Mar 1, 10 at 5:00pm

It's a shame for the Americans who don't behave this way because they get lumped in with the jerks. And no, we do not wish we were like you. Some people may have a Canadian flag while traveling (I never did that) but its not because we have an alter-ego where we wish that we're Canadian- it's because your country has so little power and does NOTHING that nobody really has strong feelings about Canada.

Given that it was WW2 and the total-war situation, some may argue that they are justified. Still, it is a massive loss of civilian life.

Yes, Canada funded an Own the Podium program recently to sponsor our athletes, but it was still nothing in comparison to the USA. Canada chooses to instead put more taxes towards welfare, health care, homeless shelters, government assisted housing, things that MATTER to the people who live here. But keep it up USA. Thing is, the half the country that's wasteland is the half we don't use for anything other than logging and mining. Some unfortunate Americans have to sell their homes because they didn't see an illness in their future. That's so unfair. I would really really REALLY like to see that statement backed up with some hard facts. In fact, isn't the American society refereed to as a "melting pot"? Submitted by kater_leaf on Mar 1, 10 at 9:15pm
          • Just FYI- America is referred to as a melting pot not because we force everybody to act the same way, but because when people from so many cultures live together, our cultures rub off on each other. Obviously, a completely homogeneous culture will never be achieved and conflict remains, but we are not perfect (but closer to perfect that Canada!) For proof of that statement, at least people actually WANT to immigrate here where we have this 'melting pot' and people dont just move there t

Well Im sorry Canada but your health care isnt free. Everyone is paying for it through your taxes. As an American I would rather pay for my own sh*t than everyone else. As for your clean cities this is true I've been to Canada and your cities are very clean I attribute this to the fact that marijuana is legal. People are less

Vietnam was an embarrassing defeat, The first gulf war didn't go too well for you, this one isn't going much better, korean war wasn't started by the US, they just backed the stronger country, same thing with the soviet war, bay of pigs invasion...A track record to be proud of.

      • We were neutral in both world wars until provoked (use that term loosely when talking about WWI) and we funded both sides. Yes, we used Germans for missiles and jets, but they were assholes so they had it coming. Vietnam was started by the French... know your history. And we didn't just 'happen' to back the stonger Korean side, it was based upon our policy of containment (also for Vietnam). There really wasn't any open hostilities with the Soviets, they did collapse because

I honestly don't believe in stereotyping, but how can Americans be so ignorant? The things I have read in this thread are hilarious. Do the math, your country has how many times our population? So, wouldn't it make sense that you would have a higher total amount of medals? However, when we have a higher percentage of GOLD medals than you, what does that tell you?

Submitted by krystan on Mar 1, 10 at 5:54pm
    • Ahem, short answer: no. Higher population does not mean that we have more people competing in the Olympics. Its not like Each country sends over a certain percentage of its population. Also, it takes a lot of funding to go to the Olympics, so it would be financially irresponsible to just send every person we had that knew how to ski, for example.

I do agree that wait times suck when we live in a generally "first come first serve" world, but people's placements on wait lists generally follows the principle of triage

    • Well, I can't find any reference saying TFLN is american made other than the fact it's hosted in the US... But the site design was done by a Canadian based company, so you may be half right. Not sure what that is supposed to prove though?

      • Actually, two american college drop outs made TFLN.....so please try again. And who cares who designed it.....lowest bidder doesnt mean better quality

I have AMAZING healthcare (I know not everyone is as lucky as me) and I have lots of heart problems so it's not just like I have a yearly exam. I have had surgery etc.\n4. I get my college paid for.\n5. Yes we Americans tend to be competitive and sometimes we are jerks about it, but I don't think the text was meant

Canada may have had balls when it was still backed by England but once it became sovereign it became a pussy. Still, being a commonwealth, you still have to recognize the queen (while having no real authority). Though it is mainly symbolic, America refuses to kowtow to anyone else- We may be proud and arrogant at times, but let me tell ya something: We're real fuckin cocky cause we're real fuckin good!

You remember what natural resources are, right? those things you squandered years ago? You're not cocky because you're good, you're cocky because you don't know any better.

We have a multicultural society. Meaning we don't just accept one culture, like our ignorant neighbors to the south. Our culture is much more rich, our people are nicer, in better shape, and our country is much more beautiful than the states. Oh, and when America outsources its jobs to other countries including canada it ma
